Brad had to go to Oklahoma for work right before Aleah's birthday. He was scheduled to get home late on the night of Aleah's birthday. Luckily, he was able to get done early and get on an early morning flight! He got home that afternoon and was able to join us for Aleah's birthday dinner. Aleah was so happy that her Daddy made it home on her birthday! Brad is such a great Dad to wake up early to travel so that he can be with us as soon as possible. One perk for him was the beautiful sunrise he got to see out his airplane window.
Aleah spent her birthday morning at gymnastics. She loves gymnastics!
That evening we went over to Grandma Bushman's for her birthday dinner, hamburgers. She picked cookies from Costco and some Costco ice cream for her dessert. You can tell that we went to Costco that afternoon!
Brad and I got her some beads for making bracelets and necklaces. Cade got her the one thing that she really wanted, My Little Ponies!
After Brad was home we had a pizza movie night. Brad really wanted the kids to watch Polar Express. They both liked it, but not too much. There were too many scary parts for them. It took them pretty much the entire movie to eat their pizza. They were both frozen, starring at the TV through the whole thing. After the movie was over they finally finished their pizza and wanted more. Just watching them was good entertainment for me!
For our preschool field trip we went to the pet store. We had a tour of the store. They showed us all the animals and let us pet and hold them. The kids loved it! Then we went to Thanksgiving Point to see the reindeer, but they were not there. I guess they are only there in the evenings. At least there were really cool ice sculptures for us to look at!
Right before Christmas break we had a service day. First, Aleah, Cade, Grant, and Braedan did some service for me. They helped me clean the basement and get all the toys organized. Second, we went to Grandma Bushman's house and they did some dusting for her. When they finished their service they earned a box of candy canes. Emma did her service the night before, she shoveled the driveway.
Grandma Bushman picked up Emma from school while the rest of us had lunch and then we headed up to the mall. They kids got to hand out candy canes to earn a ride on the carousel. It was cute to watch them ask little kids and adults if they would like a candy cane. Some people were very nice and gracious, others were a little rude. But, the kids had fun. They each got to save one of the candy canes to eat after they handed out all their other candy canes.
They loved the carousel ride and then they had fun sitting in the different vehicles for a picture. It makes me laugh when they sit down and say, "Mom, take a picture of me!"
Hopefully, they learned a little bit about service and the spirit of Christmas. It's more than the gifts we receive. Serving others makes us happy!
We had a snow day! It snowed the entire day. The snow was perfect for building snowmen. We had so much fun playing in the snow. It was actually pretty warm since there wasn't any wind, so we spent many hours just playing in the snow. It was a fun day!
Cade's nursery leaders were the best! They always had amazing lessons and activities. Cade learned to love nursery and the gospel. It was amazing to watch his testimony grow in that class. In our old ward Cade didn't like nursery and toward the end he wouldn't go. It wasn't very organized and there were kids of all ages in his class. One of the new kids in his class hit him in the head with a hammer and he never wanted to go back.
In our new ward he was hesitant to go to nursery, but his teachers just loved him and helped him feel comfortable. After a few weeks he would go in without any hesitation. A few months ago he started going to class all by himself. After sacrament meeting was over he would say, "Bye, I'm going to my class!" Off he would go down the crowded hall and up the stairs to his class.
At Thanksgiving time they took a picture of him as a pilgrim.
At Christmas time they took a picture of him as Joseph. He told me, "I didn't want to wear all the clothes. Just hold the stick."
We all love Cade's teachers Brother and Sister Barrus and Sister Lefler. Cade was so sad to not have them as his teachers any more. But, when we found out that Brother and Sister Barrus got moved to the CTR5 class and that they would be Aleah's new teachers, Cade was so excited for her.Aleah loves her new primary class with Brother and Sister Barrus and Cade loves his new Sunbeam class with Sister Mc Cormick. His first Sunday in primary he got a little sad at first. I think that it was just a little overwhelming for him. Brother Barrus came over and hugged him and told him that he would be in primary with him and would just be sitting a few rows behind him. Cade calmed down, went over to his class and did great the rest of the time. After church he told me, "I love my new class. I get to go to two classes!" He thinks that it is so cool that he gets to be in the primary room and then go to his class room.
